Selectmen consider giving public access to Sperry Pond
PUBLIC ACCESS: Loose ends slowing progress.
ANNE BERLEANT

BLUE HILL—Selectmen are discussing ways to expand public access to local waters, specifically six-acre Sperry Pond off route 172.

But before proceeding further, selectmen said the legal owner of a 30-acre parcel fronting the pond (Map 39, Lot 70) must be determined. It is likely the owner of the contiguous lot, selectmen said.

Complicating matters, a turnaround on Route 172, just before the Blue Hill entrance to the transfer station, that leads through woods to the pond, is owned by Maine Department of Transportation, which once even placed a picnic table on the turnaround.
