KATZ HAS EYES ON THE PRIZE
US investors close in on Woking takeover
David Richardson

PROSPECTIVE American investors John Katz and Drew Volpe plan to boost the budget of Woking boss Alan Dowson in January – and want to turn the club full-time next season.

The duo, and their group Final Third Sport, LLC, have been unveiled as the potential new owners of the National League club after they agreed terms for the shares of majority shareholder Peter Jordan.

Katz and Volpe have been involved in operating Minor League baseball clubs and grounds and now want to branch out to English football.

“I’ve been coming over since December 2016 and in the years since I’ve looked at clubs, got some good contacts and from the first time I walked into the Laithwaite I knew Woking was going to be the right club,” Katz exclusively told The NLP.

“I first visited the club last September and was introduced to the board in January of this year.

“I have a long history with Drew Volpe and his family, wonderfully sport-minded people. Drew’s family owns three Minor League baseball teams, the ownership group I’m part of owns three Minor League, baseball teams.
