Stocksbridge Park Steels did all they could to ensure the football matched the occasion only to fall victims of Stalybridge Celtic’s clinical finishing.
The pattern was set early on with the home side coming out of the traps the quicker through Josh Nodder’s surging run and a good cross by Luke Mangham that saw a Nodder header saved by Thomas Stewart.
Yet in almost their first foray forward Michael Burke marked his Celtic debut with a superbly taken goal. Stalybridge hesitated fatally as an innocuous long ball was held up in the strong wind and Burke showed exactly why he scored 21 goals for Staveley the last term by cleverly lobbing his shot into the far corner.
