County were knocking on the door for a while but finally found a breakthrough after a goalmouth scramble that saw Richard Bennett and Ash Palmer both hit the post before Maynard had one cleared off the line, Reid finally headed the ball in with only five minutes to go.

Stockport boss Jim Gannon praised his squad for the hard work that they put in and recognised the quality he has at his disposal.

Gannon said: “We’ve got a really strong bench and we’ve seen the impact of that this season with the likes of Alex Reid and Adam Thomas coming up good for us off the bench this season.

“But I can’t fault the effort of the players that I started today because they worked incredibly hard and they deserved to get the win in the end.”
