A DAVID Norris effort from inside the six-yard box ensured Lancaster City are now within two points of league leaders South Shields.
The loss meant Shields missed the chance to extend their lead beyond the previous five points.
A tight top-three clash attracted a bumper crowd to Mariners Park and Lancaster boss Mark Fell was proud of his team’s display.
“Before the game you’d have taken a point but credit to the lads, they’ve put in a shift and got their just rewards,” said Fell.
“Shields broke through us in the first half which was a worry but we rectified that a little bit in the second half and got the result.
