Superintendent Elkington Proposes 2020-21 Union 76 Budget

DEER ISLE—The 2020-21 central office budget and Superintendent Christian Elkington’s evaluation dominated the School Union 76 board meeting November 14 in Deer Isle.

Elkington proposed a $597,681 budget for next year, a 3.6 percent or $21,178 increase, mainly from projected health insurance increases and salary raises. He also asked whether the board was interested in a School Resource Officer, a hot topic last year that lost its shine, especially because one officer for up to nine schools, if shared with Union 93, would not be effective.

“The next money we spend should be on guidance” or a social worker, Chairman Mike Sealander suggested.
