STONINGTON—The Stonington Selectboard on Monday suspended recycling because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but kept Sand Beach open—for now, and with a warning.
Because the COVID-19 virus remains on some surfaces for hours if not days, Selectman Evelyn Duncan suggested the board temporarily end recycling to protect transfer station staff. The board agreed. Stonington residents can still drop off heavy metal objects such as old televisions, but only if they handle them themselves.
