Hypnotherapy Has Moved Into The Mainstream, And It’s Assisting Teens With Everything From Sports And Academics To Their Emotional Development

Mind Over Matter

Hypnosis has become an accepted therapy for dealing with physical and emotional issues that might be causing blocks or obstacles in teenagers’ development. Joburg-based hypnotherapist, Chez Valenti, has been working with teens and adults for more than 10 years, and has recently released his first book on hypnotherapy. In Getting to the core: Healing the past, freeing the future, he talks about how being ‘locked in repeating patterns of selfdefeating behaviours’ can result in lack of progress, and how negative patterns can be the result of unresolved trauma of past experiences – ‘even from past-life personae still very present in our subconscious’, he says.

About 30% of Chez’s clients are teenagers. ‘Many of the cases I see are related to academic issues that have physical aspects to them,’ he says. ‘Teens feel physical symptoms due to the stress and pressures of school, and then exams, tests, and speeches become difficult to deal with.’
