Aidha provides financial programmes for foreign domestic workers and lower-income women – including financial management, computer literacy, English, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. More than 80 percent of Aidha’s graduates go on to start a regular savings system, and more than 70 percent invest in assets like livestock and land or start businesses in their home countries. “It is humbling to see the perseverance in these women,” says Yina Song, a South Korean expat, who has been volunteering with Aidha since 2012. Habitat for Humanity

The Singapore branch of Habitat for Humanity has several programmes in need of volunteers. Project HomeWorks is a home clean-up programme that creates a clean, safe environment for the elderly and people with disabilities living alone in rental flats. Volunteers help to clean, paint and sort household belongings at sessions on Saturdays or weekdays. Meanwhile, UnLitter Red Dot is a two-hour programme where up to 100 volunteers clear litter in a designated area of Singapore. (
