Zenith announced the launch of its Swizz Beatz capsule collection this year, in the wake of last year’s captivating Defy El Primero 21 Swizz Beatz Edition Unique. Aficionados are now being treated to three colorful and appealing new special editions. The bezel of each is inscribed with all or part of an inspirational quote from the musician:
“Never let people tell you what you can’t do, because sky’s not the limit, it’s just the view”.
“Zenith has been bringing style and substance to the wrists of watchmaking cognoscenti all over the world for more than 150 years. In 2018, we continue to reach for the stars. Leveraging the entrepreneurial spirit so firmly entrenched in our brand, the focus is firmly on expanding on our iconic Defy and Pilot collections. This year, the futuristic DNA of the DEFY line will appear in a full-fledged collection featuring several degrees of mechanical complexity, ranging from three-hand to Grand Complication models. Fans of pilot watches can also look forward to a number of new iterations of our highly popular PILOT Type 20 watches. These include a relaunch of the PILOT Type 20 Chronograph Ton Up as well as a new special edition that is the latest result of our partnership with cult cigar brand Cohiba.” said Julien Tornare, the CEO of Zenith.
Defy ClassicA gateway into this futuristic universe, the new Defy Classic oozes charisma through all 41mm of its titanium case framing a stellar dial decor, coupled with a choice between a metal bracelet and a strap in leather or rubber. With its case forged from ultralight titanium, its blackened skeleton movement, its star-shaped openworked dial, and its shade of blue reflecting the collection’s original colour, this Zenith watch propels casual chic elegance into a whole new dimension. The deep blue minutes ring enhances an openworked mechanism sporting contemporary finishing. In a nod to the collection’s legendary origins, this is the exact same shade as its illustrious predecessor, the 1969 El Primero. Beating inside its light titanium case is a Manufacture Zenith movement — the famous automatic Elite 670 base calibre. For the very first time, this reliable and accurate engine is revealed by means of an ultra-modern openworked approach. Blackened, structured and topped by a cut-out date disc read off on a white dot at 6 o’clock, it oscillates at 4 Hz and enjoys over 50 hours of autonomy.
Defy Zero G
The first embodiment of futuristic Haute Horlogerie, the new Defy Zero G defies the laws of gravity with its downsized and optimised gyroscopic “Gravity Control” module. Zenith’s famous patented device stages a spectacular show at the heart of a skeletonised and grey-toned high-frequency El Primero calibre. Fitted with a sturdy 44mm case in titanium or pink gold, the Defy Zero G teams its stellar architecture with a supple and ergonomic metal bracelet.
