From having an orchid named after him to having personal friend Kate Hudson attend the opening of his Singapore store as guest-of-honour, Michael Kors’s trip to the Lion City was an event-filled, star-studded whirlwind of activity. Throw in his hilarious and candid interview session with ex-host of CNN’s Fashion: Backstage Pass Alina Cho and preparations for the store opening itself, it’s a wonder the designer finds the time to even shop, but he does, and for him, Singapore’s the ideal spot to do this: “For someone like me who loves to shop, who loves good food and great weather, this is the perfect spot. I could shop till I drop here.”Marie Claire Malaysia followed Kors on his Singapore journey. These are the highlights of his trip:

DENDROBIUM MICHAEL KORS

This honour is definitely a unique one as no other fashion designer has an orchid in his name. The orchid naming ceremony was held on a humid, rainy evening at the 156-year-old Singapore Botanic Gardens. Strapping male models greeted guests at the entrance and offered handheld fans that helped relieve guests from the famous South East Asian heat and humidity. The eponymous orchid is from the genus Dendrobium which is famous for its long-stemmed elegance and delicacy. Kors was officially presented with the orchid by US ambassador to Singapore, Kirk Wagar. The designer was extremely pleased at being bestowed this
