The twinset had become something of a middle-aged cliché, now pearls are popping up everywhere

It was once noted that if you wore a twinset and pearls middle age was looming but nowadays younger generations are taking an interest in these iridescent gems and designers are putting them back in the spotlight.

According to Sotheby’s, interest in natural pearls has surged in the past 10 years. ‘They are no longer simply considered to be prudish or conventional,’ explains Daniela Mascetti of the aucion house’s jewellery division. ‘Now they are being worn in more edgy ways and are becoming a symbol of female empowerment. There has also been a resurgence in the fashion for tiaras, especially for brides, and that has also meant a boost in interest.’
