BACK TO BUSINESS IN COLCHESTER

Wivenhoe House

The team at Wivenhoe House has been developing new, innovative ways to re-open when it is safe to do so and operate in a way which keeps our guests and staff as safe as possible, with social distancing and hygiene being a top priority. Currently being planned are takeaway options, which we are very excited to share soon. These will include stonebaked pizzas, three-course gourmet meals to make at home and our famous afternoon teas. Prior to re-opening, our staff will go through a training process, re-induction and briefings on how to stay safe and alert during this pandemic. They will also learn about the new etiquette to provide excellent service during this exceptional time. Look out on social media for dates of re-opening. wivenhoehouse.co.uk

We used to call her Boadicea when I was at school, but as historians become ever cleverer at understanding the way our forebears used to live, they’ve got the hang of the way they spoke too (no mean feat in the days two millennia before voice recording).

However you pronounce it, the name of Boudicca (as we now know it should be pronounced) was on the lips of every Roman centurion in the area when she stormed into Camulodonum in AD 60 (or it might have been 61, the historians aren’t quite so sure about that) with her band of faithful Celts, dead-set on burning Britain’s first city to the ground.
