Traveling to far-flung places has its appeal, but in our haste to discover the wider world we often forget to notice what’s right here under our noses. In fact, there is quite a lot to be said for standing still. I have studied birds and nature since I was strong enough to hold up a pair of binoculars and although my passions and interests have expanded somewhat, my foundations remain firmly rooted.
In the birding world, there is a vast array of terminology and vocabulary. There are the twitchers and leggers, the avid adventurers who clock up the miles in pursuit of that rare, elusive beast to tick off their list.
