Son pocas LAS PERSONAS que se ven en la posición de elegir entre una carrera como atleta de alto rendimiento o una reconocida estrella del pop. Sin duda ambas opciones implican sacrificios extraordinarios desde muy temprana edad que solo pocos están dispuestos a cumplir: disciplina, pasión, talento, vivir lejos de la familia y amigos, poco hogar, muchas horas de soledad, dinero y todo lo que la fama conlleva, para bien o para mal.
Es el caso de Liam Payne, quien de niño soñaba con ir a las Olimpiadas como corredor y, al mismo tiempo, le prestaba una atención muy especial a la música. Al final, Payne, después de experimentar la frustración que supone la carrera de un atleta, y que la vida misma le mostrara que su camino iría por otro lado, decidió enfocarse en la música. Hoy no cuesta trabajo reconocer al atleta en su cuerpo marcado y tatuado –y en ese rostro perfectamente afeitado como recién salido del aparador de una tienda exquisita–, pero en el deporte la competitividad nos es un asunto negociable; por más esfuerzo que pusiera en ello, difícilmente llegaría al nivel que necesitaba para integrar el equipo olímpico representante de Inglaterra en pruebas de velocidad. El mundo del arte le ofrecía, en cambio, una forma más libre de expresarse y de ser.
