JAKE MCDORMAN: La serie está basada en el libro de Tom Wolfe del mismo nombre, que narra la historia de un grupo de astronautas en el American Space Program, donde probaron aviones y cohetes experimentales. Cuenta quiénes eran, qué hacían, entra en sus vidas personales y nos enseña cómo eran las relaciones con sus esposas. Fue muy interesante porque se volvieron famosos en el mundo, los medios americanos los proyectaban como celebridades y ellos no necesariamente estaban preparados para ese nivel de fama.
ESQ: ¿QUÉ TE DECIDIÓ A PARTICIPAR EN ESTA PRODUCIÓN?
JM: Con honestidad, fue un poco de todo. El guion del piloto era fantástico, uno de los mejores que he leído en años para un drama de una sola cámara. Tenía muchos personajes diferentes que introducir y malabarear; todo eso, en una hora de emisión, es impresionante. Creo que Mark Lafferty (el productor) lo hizo increíblemente bien. Además, estaba involucrada la compañía de producción de Leonardo DiCaprio, que tiene cierto pedigree y te hace sentir que estás en buenas manos, y el hecho de que fuera para NatGeo (en ese momento todavía no se involucraba Disney+), le daba aún más exposición.
