El estilo no sólo se define por lo que te atrae, sino por tus orígenes. Es la perspectiva del director Steve McQueen. “Soy un londinense de clase obrera. Cuando piensas en Londres, piensas en rockeros, punks y skinheads. Los pantalones de tres cuartos, el corte militar. Todo lo que hago es muy Londres”, cuenta. Se entiende que McQueen prefiera ropa del diseñador Yohji Yamamoto, cuyo enfoque avant-garde evoca esa misma energía rebelde.
“Su ropa tiene ligereza y una especie de movimiento interpretado en la tela o el corte. Le va muy bien a mi cuerpo y mi personalidad”, dice McQueen, quien participó en la pasarela de Yamamoto en 2018.
El director ha desvelado películas visionarias en cines e instalaciones de arte en galerías modernas desde hace más de dos décadas, desde obras discretas, mordaces, como Shame, a la absolutamente brutal 12 Years a Slave (merecedora del Óscar a Mejor Película).
