Susan McCoubrey, director of home interior store Block & Chisel, favours classic comfort and a timeless, easy style in open, airy spaces. And “trendy” does not feature.

Susan McCoubrey

I am a lucky, busy, creative entrepreneur working with my brother and mother in a dynamic interiors business constantly trying to balance my other passion – raising my beloved three kids, aged seven, 12 and 16. I run their busy schedules while balancing my home life with my dogs and awesome husband, Dean McCoubrey, who teaches online safety and digital well-being in schools. I seek balance and harmony with beautiful things around me.

My personal style is eclectic and simple. I love mixing classic Chinese antiques with simple loose cover linen sofas and treasures with meaningful collections and flashes of colour. I adore original artworks by my father Sibley McAdam.

My home is my sanctuary. It’s my favourite place to be. I love the flow, the open, airy light spaces – it’s homely and comfortable – and we are so lucky to be surrounded by poplar and oak trees. It’s big enough and small enough for all the family to just be. It’s filled with my favourite bits from all phases of my life and treasures from Block & Chisel I just had to have – including a Blair sofa and Lillian desk. It’s also filled with my favourite people!
