EXPERT ADVICE
Katherine Mitchell, lighting buyer at John Lewis & Partners One of the most important considerations when lighting a kitchen is the height of the ceiling. Higher spaces allow for more creativity with the type and amount of lighting you can use. Consider a cluster of pendants, hung at varying heights, as a contemporary twist on a traditional chandelier. Lower ceilings work better with wall lights and sleek flush or semi-flush ceiling lights to maximise head room. Layering your look with different types of lighting will allow you to light specific areas and give you greater control over the ambience of the room.
EXPERT ADVICE
Rohan Blacker, Founder of Pooky. The kitchen is a functional space, so it needs to be well lit. Directed spot lights and over island pendant lighting combine practicality with beautiful design.
