Principal of Bengaluru-based

MAIA Design Studio, Designer Shruti Jaipuria prioritizes human behavior and a detailed exploration of materials as part of her process. Jaipuria began the young practice in 2011, and revels in its collaboration with artists, chefs and homeowners. Together, they seek to create unforgettable, immersive experiences for all stakeholders.

MAIA has worked across multiple sectors – retail, F&B, hospitality, residential and commercial. Jaipuria says, “We have been involved in strategy discussions with clients and helped conceive storylines for restaurants and retail spaces. We have had the opportunity to work with leading corporates such as Titan and Park Hyatt; as well as with homeowners and entrepreneurs. This has given us a unique perspective of working across different scales and budgets”.

However, design was not Jaipuria’s first choice of career. On graduating in Finance from the University of Michigan, Jaipuria found herself drawn to the world of interiors via color, texture, pattern and space. This curiosity drew her to the Parsons School of Design, New York where she studied interior design. She trained at the New York-based tonychi interior design studio before founding MAIA. As a discipline that was continuously evolving and full of discovery, she found it mesmerizing. She says, “It is a meeting of the left and the right brain, the logical and technical with the creative. It comes with immense challenges and learning, and that keeps me ticking”.
