This amazing set mimics the honeycomb found in a bee’s nest, and is just the right combo to keep you stylish and warm this winter.

Hat: 171/2(19, 201/2) inches in circumference x 91/2inches tall

Mitts: 71/2inches in circumference x 81/2inches tall

Scarf: 61/2inches wide x 72 inches long

MATERIALS

• Berroco Medina light (DK) weight cotton/acrylic/viscose yarn (31/2oz/295 yds/100g per ball): 5 balls #4772 melilla

• Size F/5/3.75mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Size E/4/3.5mm crochet hook

• Tapestry needle

GAUGE

In honeycomb: 11 sts = 2 inches; 7 rows/rnds = 2 inches

Take time to check gauge.

PATTERN NOTES

Hat and mitts are worked in turned rounds from the bottom up.

Weave in ends as work progresses.

Chain-2 at beginning of row or round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

Work all post stitches of Honeycomb pattern as a decrease stitch, working first around the post and completing the decrease by working in next stitch on current row or round.

Join with slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

First foundation double crochet (first foundation dc): Ch 2, yo, insert hook into 2nd ch from hook (see illustration A), yo, pull up lp, yo, draw through 1 lp on hook (see illustration B—ch-1 completed), [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice (see illustrations C–E—dc completed).

Next foundation double crochet (next foundation dc): *Yo, insert hook in last ch-1 made (see illustration A), yo, pull up lp, yo, draw through 1 lp on hook (see illustration B—ch-1 completed), [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice (see illustrations C–E— dc completed); rep from * as indicated.

Split back post treble crochet 2 together (split bptr2tog): *Yo twice, insert hook around post of indicated st, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from *, yo, insert hook into next st on current row or rnd, yo, draw through, yo, draw through 2, yo, draw through all lps on hook.

Split front post treble crochet 2 together (split fptr2tog): *Yo twice, insert hook around post of indicated st, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice, rep from *, yo, insert hook into next st on current row or rnd, yo, draw through, yo, draw through 2, yo, draw through all lps on hook.

PATTERN STITCH

Honeycomb worked in rnds (multiple of 8 sts) Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), sk next st, dc in next st, fptr (see Stitch Guide and Pattern Notes) around 5th st from beg, [dc in each of next 3 sts, fptr around same st as previous fptr, dc in each of next 3 sts, fptr in 8th st from previous post] around to last 4 sts, dc in each of next 3 sts, fptr around same st as previous fptr, dc in last st, join in top of beg ch-2, turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, dc in each of next 6 sts, [split bptr2tog (see Special Stitches) around previous post st and next post st, dc in next 7 sts] around to last st, split bptr2tog around previous post st and first post st of rnd, join in top of beg ch-2, turn.

Rnd 3: Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a st), fptr around first st, [dc in each of next 7 sts, fptr around next st] around to last 7 sts, dc in each of last 7 sts, join in top of beg fptr, turn.
