Go Out & Smash It!
Women's Health South Africa|September 2019

Gym not your thing? Slim down and tone up outdoors with our 2019 Next Fitness Star, Nomawothi Bafana. Her boot camp-style workout will give you full-body definition, just in time for summer

Go Out & Smash It!

Just like avo and coriander, the gym is one of those things that you either love or hate. For some, it’s a playground, while others just can’t get past the smell of sweat and chlorine. On the other hand, a rush of crisp, fresh air filling your lungs first thing in the morning is enough to leave even the biggest snooze-button-pusher wide awake. And with so much space to play with, you can get creative by incorporating strength training and cardio into one workout.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Women’s Health 2019 Next Fitness Star, Nomawothi Bafana is here to help you kick winter to the curb with a mix of outdoor training classes. “I want to be able to reach all kinds of people,” she says. Her journey as a fitness instructor has been about finding out what people enjoy so she can help them make their fitness journey more fulfilling. Having been involved in sports throughout school and varsity, Nomawothi sees the importance of training and making it a fun experience. “I love learning different classes because I know people have different views on fitness. Some prefer HIIT to dancing. Other people prefer Pound to get rid of frustration. Whatever you choose, it should be about you,” she says. Nomawothi can’t stop emphasising the benefits of having fun when you work out. “I don’t want people to go on a fitness journey that’s boring. If you don’t enjoy what you do, it becomes harder,” she says.
