Your Guide to a Balanced Pregnancy.

Bailey Gaddis

The “frazzled pregnant lady” is a popular archetype in American culture, but it doesn’t have to be the paradigm you follow. You can instead select a journey through gestation that allows your whole being—mind, body, and spirit—to settle into a state of balance that will awaken your awareness of your body, kick your mind into high gear, and upgrade your spirit. And the best perk of a balanced pregnancy? A healthier and happier birthing experience. To initiate harmonious baby growing, integrate the following into your path to motherhood:

Surround Yourself with Advocates

Pregnancy sprinkles change into every corner of your life. These changes can produce feelings of instability, anxiety, and other emotional gremlins. As you ride out these emotions, your heart cries out a call to action for you to attract individuals who nurture you mentally, physically, emotionally, and unconditionally.

The key players you want in your advocacy group are a supportive companion, a medical care provider radiating support for your unique needs and desires, a friend that listens to your pregnancy challenges without telling you how you should fix them (a confidante you are safe to just “be” with), and if you choose to hire one, a doula that makes you feel comfortable and free to express yourself.

This group will protect you from the guilt and shame the birth culture is often laced with and realign you when you’re out of whack.

Access Your Kindest Self

Peaceful energy flows into your pregnancy when you tap into that tender internal space that knows how to cut you some slack for not feeling totally jazzed about birth, or freaking out at the sight of your ballooning body, or thinking there’s no way you’ll be a “good mom.” Your kindest self won’t punish you for having these thoughts and fears, but will whisper “shhh” into your soul and give you a long hug. And if she really loves you, she’ll put you down for a nap.

Get to know this kind self by writing at least ten things you love about yourself and standing in front of a mirror while reading them out loud with a smile!

Do the Inner Work You Never Thought You Had Time For

Digging into your deeper layers is commonly seen as an extracurricular activity to be tackled after the laundry, emails, and procrastination. But, this self-care is as crucial as that prenatal vitamin you’re popping.
