PROVIDING TIME for an active and a healthy lifestyle despite mounting workload may sometimes be considered spreading yourself thinly. But if this well-spent time improves the quality of your output in work, then it is a choice worth pursuing.

This is what kapamilya A – list celebrity J.C. de Vera has in mind whenever he pushes himself early in the morning for his 40-50 minute workouts. “Fitness has helped me by improving my endurance, especially when it comes to grueling work through the sleepless nights,” he said.

The 32 year old actor and model even adds that he squeezes in his workout sessions despite his typical 20 hour workday schedule. “As long as I have 6-7 hours of sleep, I can work out properly. Less than 6 hours of sleep is hard for me. Physically, I feel weak. When I sleep late or stay up working until the morning, I feel like I can easily get injured during workouts because of the sluggishness that my body feels. If I force myself to exercise despite feeling tired, then it usually follows that I’ll get sick after because of my lowered level of immune system. So I make it a point to get 6 hours of sleep to give my 100% effort in my workouts,” explained J.C.

With a sip of black coffee or a serving of a pre workout supplement, de Vera said that he can go about his exercise routine. His program incorporates cardiovascular exercises and resistance training.

“I start offby doing dynamic stretches and limbering up sequences. Then, I go for agility drills to warm up my legs which require a lot of sprinting, L-drills, single leg hops, and all the others,” he said. Other sources of his cardiovascular warm-ups include shooting hoops or going through boxing drills. “I also run. 10k is the longest distance I cover, and I do it twice a month. I also use HIIT workouts as a source of cardio since I’m moving and lifting continuously for a given time,” elaborated de Vera.
