Lightweight MVELISO TAPI knew this from experience. Having competed in the contest for the past five years, he knew he had to come in super shredded to take his class. And that was exactly what he did. With the victory safely in the bag Mveliso was ready to travel back to the Eastern Cape with a sense of accomplishment but a call that came from the judges’ table took the 38-year-old by total surprise - he had beaten a host of top contenders to take the Overall title.

“This sport is full of surprises. When they called my number I was in total shock. I never thought it would happen to me!”
At a mere 1.65m tall he has always been battling giants. Slowly but surely he progressed through the bodybuilding ranks, placing 3rd in the Lightweight category at the IFBB SA's in 2015 and 2nd in 2016. Where did it all start? “As far as I can remember I have always wanted to be a lean, mean muscle machine,” he says.
