Indian healthcare over the years has been experiencing a new wave of opportunities at all levels- from Governments, to funding agencies, to payers to providers, private investors and so on. Despite substantial progress, healthcare providers are reinventing the existing delivery models to bring healthcare closer to the patients. Several Government schemes such as the National Health Protection Scheme under which a health coverage of upto Rs 5 lakh per family is currently been offered for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation is a landmark that shows expanded Government’s role from provider to payer and the new offerings for financial risk protection coverage to the marginalised groups. Private sector partnerships through health PPPs are gradually gaining acceptance, thereby improving access to care.

Once upon a time in our country there used to a significant mismatch between the supply and demand of healthcare services in India. However, this gap has been fulfilled to a large extent by attracting PE investments. This will be the next big thing over the few years
