THE IMPORTANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH
MENTAL HEALTH ILLNESSES are common in the United States. In fact, nearly one in five adults is living with a mental health illness. Each year, we set aside the August edition of Central Florida Health News to focus on mental and behavioral health.

We highlight treatments, trends and specializing physicians to give you a snapshot of the important issues in Central Florida. This year, perhaps more than ever, mental and behavioral health are important topics relevant to everyone. The nation’s top doctors say the coronavirus pandemic is causing a historic rise in mental health problems, increasing the rates of anxiety and depression.

In this edition, we speak with Ileana Kniss, director of community relations and development at Peace River Center, to learn about the changes being made in order to treat clients in a world of social distancing and telehealth.
