Keeping it in the family

Do you have an allotment or plot at home?

I have a full-sized allotment in the village we live in, it is about 60 x 30 feet. Daughter Jasmin has her own plot too.

Do you work the plot on your own?

I spend a lot of time planning the plot over the quieter months and I pretty much do all of the weeding, planting, and watering myself. My very useful husband does the DIY, and cuts the grass paths for me and helps out with the rotavating in the spring when there is so much to do. My daughter painted the shed for me for some pocket money.

Originally, when we took on our very overgrown allotment seven years ago together as a family we all got our hands dirty, but as we have really started to get it under control, my now 13-year-old daughter has been inspired to take on her own plot, and her dad is helping her out too. Now we are seeing who can grow the best veggies.

How long have you been growing veg?
