Florence fennel is a popular annual vegetable grown for its white bulb with a strong taste of aniseed. The stems and feathery green leaves and seeds are also edible, making this an essential decorative and ‘eat all plant’ in the garden. Trials were recently carried out at Wisley Gardens in Surrey – home of the Royal Horticultural Society – to discover the very best varieties to grow.
