FIVE WAYS TO SPRAY

I recently decided it was time to up my game with regard to the finishing and detailing of model aircraft. For years I've happily used rattle cans and a very cheap Humbrol Air Brush powered by an aerosol can of compressed air; it wasn't great and required the paint to be thinned to the consistency of water so it would splatter from the nozzle but to be fair it was a very, very inexpensive product. Clearly my expertise level regarding quality airbrush systems was for all intents and purposes a big fat zero, other than knowing that airbrushes perform by atomizing liquid into tiny droplets that produce distinct lines or appear as a fine mist, so superior atomization produces superior results. Some research was definitely required before taking the plunge.

Scanning the internet for inspiration a name previously unfamiliar to me popped up a number of times – Iwata. On their website a message grabbed my attention, ‘5 ways to spray’ and as mentioned, having established my total lack of airbrush knowledge this looked very interesting and helpful. Iwata offer a range of 30 plus airbrushes so unless you're a seasoned pro this can be confusing. To help demystify things they have created an easier way to understand your options and select the correct tool for the job!

Simply they have designated five categories of requirement:

1 - ABSOLUTE PRECISION

Aimed at seasoned professionals with high level airbrush and maintenance skills. Used for extremely fine detail and scale work and capable of using thin, low viscosity liquids.

2 – TOTAL CONTROL

For beginners to high skill level users painting fine to medium detail. Suitable for hobbyists and professionals alike.

3 – ALL STAR VERSATILITY
