we rise

“I still love that whole beauty of film and cinema and how magical it is,” Letitia Wright tells us. “I’ll watch my own movie to see if I believe it. I can tell if I’m telling the truth or not.” Even years into the game, the magnetism of the silver screen still hasn’t worn off.

Most of us first encountered Wright in her big-screen breakthrough as Black Panther’s fan-favorite princess Shuri. The British-Guyanese actor brought tenderness and toughness to the character, qualities she has carried through to other performances from the stage to on-screen roles in Top Boy, Black Mirror and Avengers blockbusters — a charismatic run that earned her BAFTA’s Rising Star Award well before her 26th birthday.

Wright’s star shows no sign of dimming. This Autumn alone she is set to star in Kenneth Branagh’s film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, alongside a star-studded cast that includes Gal Gadot and Armie Hammer, and Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe.
