Festive wear happens to be the backbone of the Indian fashion space, which has evolved radically in the past decade. From new creative approaches, to growing awareness of sophisticated sartorial choices, all the way to global trends, and reviving traditional weaves; there is no single factor owing to the game-changing face of Indian wear, but a marriage of plenty. But, it boils down to trends and ‘what’s in or out’, to sum up the progress. We speak to experts to get a fashion mandate, straight from the horses’ mouth.

Today’s Indian festive wear ceases to limit itself within the broad umbrella of saris, lehangas, and salwar suits. It’s high time to look beyond the staples, and shift the focus to fabric, motifs, cut, colours and silhouettes. Designer Varun Bahl elaborates, “The season is all about the expression of delicate maximalism. The use of embroidered floral motifs, paisleys in metal sequins, pearls are trending and colours like ivory, gold, pale pink, coral and hint of mint green are perfect for the festive season.” Focusing on silhouettes, designer Shyamal & Bhumika says, “Watch out for bias skirts with sensuous cholis, shararas, trendy shoulder-baring blouses, structured jackets, saris in sheer organza, asymmetric hemlines, signature cowl dresses, trailing kalidaars, peplum tops, poet sleeves, georgettes and translucent tulle and fun details in the outfits.”
