When Paraiba tourmalines were first unearthed in the Eighties in a mine in Brazil, Eduard Josef Gübelin, one of the most renowned gemmologists of the 20th century, described the colour of the incredibly rare precious gem as “flashlight blue turquoise” and “busily flickering mint green – an incomprehensible expressiveness exaggerated into the realms of the artificial.” If you’re wondering how does it get its colour, it is the chemical structure of copper and manganese that bestows the gemstone its gleaming blue and green shadings.

Grace of the Sea Anemone is an extension of the Deep Sea collection, which ref lects the mysterious world of the all-encompassing ocean. Riveted and intrigued by the Paraiba tourmaline inclusion, the Gübelin designers set out to created pieces of jewellery, taking cue from the organic patterns and structures spotted dwelling within.
