A French luxury house that’s synonymous with classic modernity, Chanel celebrates 30 years of watchmaking with a new in-house movement and show-stopping novelties.
In the three decades of its fine watchmaking journey, Chanel has spellbound us with creations so exquisitely engineered, crafted and decorated they make you ache with desire. One might wonder what Chanel contributes to haute horology and, in turn, what haute horology gains from the privately held company, but Chanel keeps persuading us all otherwise with each new release showing off a charming vision of time-keeping where neither craftsmanship nor technical expertise is compromised.
And it all started with the Première. Drawing inspiration from the No. 5 bottle stopper shape that recalled the geometry and proportions of the famed Place Vendôme launched in late 1987, it was the first watch created exclusively by Chanel for women. So it came as no surprise when the Maison introduced the Première Camélia Skeleton in commemoration of the anniversary at Baselworld. Housing the company’s second in-house movement, aptly named Calibre 2, the watch boasts a stunning skeletonised main plate and bridges designed in the form of a 3D camellia flower. Three models were showcased, ranging from a minimally adorned varient with a diamond-set bezel to one outfitted with an 18-carat white gold bracelet set with 282 baguette-cut diamonds.
Other pieces spotting the octagonal shape: the masculine-looking Boy.Friend with polished angles and Tweed motif straps that are now available in 18-carat beige gold and black PVD-coated steel, while Première with a mother-of-pearl dial and a steel triple row chain has a red leather ribbon.
