“He was probably the first person to spark my interest,” Peyton says of her dad, who has had roles on shows like This Is Us, Chicago P.D. and General Hospital. “I was always so into what he was doing and loved seeing him on TV.”
Pretty soon, Peyton picked up some gigs of her own, like commercial spots for Sprint and Petco and a small part on the hit show Scandal. But it wasn’t until recently that she got her big break: the leading role on Disney Channel’s new series Andi Mack, about an artistic, introverted 13-year-old whose life takes a left turn when her older sister, Bex, returns home and shakes things up.
“Andi’s mom and dad are super overprotective, so Bex tries to get her out of her bubble,” explains Peyton. “She encourages Andi to have new experiences, try new looks and all of the stuff girls should experiment with.”
Even though she’s not 13 quite yet (be sure to wish her a happy birthday on May 22!), Peyton says playing a teenager isn’t all that difficult—and it helps that she’s got the support of her on- and off screen besties, Sofia Wylie (Buffy) and Joshua Rush (Cyrus).
