Breast Cancer: The Basics
At the earliest pre-invasive stage, cancer cells do not spread outside the breast. Treatment at this stage offers the highest chances of survival10.
Invasive cancer may gain access to the surrounding blood and lymph vessels in the breast and start circulating systematically. If left untreated, cancer may spread to the rest of the body such as the liver, lungs, brain and bones, affecting their functions. This is Stage 4 cancer where more complex treatments are needed to manage the disease10.
Breast cancer prognosis becomes worse as it spreads. It is important to get diagnosed and to treat it early8.
