He was the guy you loved, loathed, or loved to loathe. Depending on who you spoke to, he was either arrogant and opinionated or smart and full of integrity.
But no matter which camp you belonged to, you had to agree on one thing: Eusebius McKaiser was impossible to ignore.
He didn’t shy away from controversy – on the contrary, he grabbed it with both hands and throttled the heck out of it.
But the voice that sent listeners’ blood pressure soaring off the charts is hanging up his microphone now and stepping away to see where else life leads him.
After a decade presenting Talk at 9 on 702, the 41-year-old is ready to call it a day. Why is he leaving, many listeners wanted to know? Was there drama?
Some media reports said Eusebius was unhappy that the station had implemented a 30% salary cut for certain staff members and were letting some presenters go because of financial restraints.
Not so, Eusebius tells us shortly after news of his resignation broke. He spent many happy, fulfilling years on 702 but it’s time to move on.
“The plan was always to quit while the show was doing well, rather than when the ratings were down.
“A lot of things interest me: TV, writing, the beauty of documentary making. One of the downsides of being curious is that you always end up asking yourself, ‘Do I stick to one form for life, or do I stay on one stage and die on that stage?’
“Still, I feel guilty because many of my listeners wish I was staying or are hoping I’m going to pop up at another station.”
But for now, this is it. He’s silenced his voice – at least on radio.
