Get Ready For Some Spectacular Scenery – And Prepare To Fight The Wind, Says Claire Isaac!
Flying into Reykjavik on a gusty February day we didn’t expect that the wind was such a “thing”, but apparently wind and Iceland go hand in hand – even the cars have signs in them telling you to hold tightly on to the doors when opening them!
First, our bags couldn’t be offloaded from the plane because the wind was so strong, then it was so intense we were forced to wait inside for a squall to pass.
And the gale-force winds didn’t stop as we drove the iconic Golden Circle.
This popular drive is a perfect day trip from Reykjavik and has three must-see tourist spots along the way – Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Field and the impressive Gullfoss Waterfall, but you can stop at many other sights along the way, wind permitting of course.
