One in five women suffers from a significant mental health problem such as depression or anxiety every year. Even celebrities who seem to live a picture-perfect life aren’t immune – Jessica Marais, Halle Berry and Catherine Zeta-Jones have spoken about their mental health battles. Psychologist Jane Fisher says you can take control of your mental wellbeing by recognising the signs and symptoms of a crisis and knowing when to seek help.
What is it?
“The term mental health is used to describe the optimal state of psychological functioning in which you realise your own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life and can use your skills to work productively,” Dr Fisher says.
