Poplar in 1965 continues to witness great change, with immigrants from all over the world moving to the area. Coming from Jamaica two years earlier, midwife Lucille Anderson realises some locals still don’t like difference.
When Lucille’s sent to cover at nearby St Cuthbert’s hospital, she gets off to a bumpy start with her first patient, Connie Blair (Hannah Onslow), who’s hostile towards Lucille because of her skin colour.
