We may be living in uncertain times, but we can still rely on Stephen Mulhern, that gold lamé jacket and his glorious game show In for a Penny to add some much-needed sparkle to our Saturday evenings.
After starting life as a segment on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in 2017, last year In for a Penny was given its own primetime ITV series.
For anyone yet to experience the show’s magic, it sees Stephen travel around the UK asking members of the public to compete in various fun games, including the In for a Penny round, where players can potentially walk away with a £1,000 cash prize.
The second series continues this week as Stephen heads to the seaside town of Bognor Regis, where highlights include our host persuading couples to swap clothes in the Cross-Dressing game and locals trying to guess the famous face in Celebrity Drive-Who?
As host of two other ITV game shows, Catchphrase and Big Star’s Little Star, plus, of course, his regular role on Saturday Night Takeaway, Stephen is now among the most in-demand presenters on TV.
Always a joy to interview, here, Stephen, who turned43 earlier this month, tells us what he thinks makes In for a Penny special and why he has the best job in the world…
