PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS NEW SUNDAY / ITV / 9PM / AWARDS
Captain Sir Tom Moore has been a beacon of hope for the nation during the coronavirus pandemic.
On 6 April, with his 100th birthday approaching at the end of the month, the World War Two veteran captured hearts when he decided to walk 100 laps of his garden to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together. To his surprise, the inspirational mission struck a chord across the globe and he went on to raise over £32 million.
After receiving thousands of nominations for Captain Sir Tom, the Pride of Britain Awards research panel decided his story was so remarkable that they took the unprecedented decision to declare him a 2020 winner on ITV’s Good Morning Britain back in April, rather than wait until the autumn announcement.
