HEROIC calling

There’s been a spate of TV spin-offs on our screens over the past few months – from Penny Dreadful: City of Angels to FBI: Most Wanted – and this week sees yet another when 9-1-1: Lone Star arrives on Sky Witness.

Like the original 9-1-1, the drama follows a dedicated team of first responders – firefighters, paramedics, police officers and 911 operators – who answer a range of emergency call-outs.

While the original is set in Los Angeles, 9-1-1: Lone Star takes place in Austin, Texas, and stars Rob Lowe as decorated firefighter Captain Owen Strand.

Owen was the only firefighter in his New York firehouse to survive the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and he relocates to Austin in this week’s opening episode when the city calls on his services following the death of several Austin firefighters in an explosion.
