Home Cinema Choice|February 2020
Welcome to the AV-Holic Hall of Fame! Introduce yourself…
Hi, I’m Martin Palmer. I’m 47 years old.
How long have you been into home cinema, and what was the first setup you had?
I’ve been into home cinema for roughly 25 years. Back then it was a 5.1 midi hi-fi system, a VCR, and a 5ft, 4:3 screen and low-res projector.
When and why did you make the decision to set up your current cinema room?
I’ve been in Home Cinema Choice magazine before many, many years back and this is my second build project, in another house. It’s been done very slowly over three years as we had to build a loft room first, so I could use the old bedroom for the new cinema.
So what kit's in your system?
My kit includes Mission speakers that I’ve had for a while now. They are in a 9.1 setup at the moment with a Bowers & Wilkins PV1 subwoofer. My sources are a Pioneer BDPLX54, Panasonic DMP-UB900 (4K Blu-ray player for future use), Toshiba HD DVD player, Sony PS4, Nintendo Switch and an Apple TV. The projector is an Epson EH-TW9000 with anamorphic lens, used with a 123in Screen Innovations 2.35:1 screen.
I also have four ceiling speakers for when I upgrade the amp to Dolby Atmos.
Who was responsible for the installation? Were there any difficulties to overcome?
