The season of office parties is upon us. While some look forward to them, others can have several anxious moments in the lead up to one. But almost everybody has a hilarious story or an embarrassing experience to share from an office party. 

This is because most people forget that an office party is not really an all-out, let-your-hair-down kind of an event. Roshni Wadhwa, HR Director, L’Oréal India, says, “An office party is a cost-effective way of team building, across departments and functions. It is an opportunity to show the best of you, to mingle with your associates, to be confident, presentable and dignified.” 

At an office party, the thumb rule is to be cautious. Remember that the food and drinks are incidental to why you’re there. Have a drink or two only if you can handle it. Though it sounds obvious, it’s important to keep your alcohol tolerance in mind. 

There are other rules of etiquette to follow as well. Ignore these and you’ll be the hot topic around the watercooler.
