7 STEPS TO A MORE sustainable you

1. PLANT MORE WASTE LESS

There are horrifying statistics on how much food we throw away. So, Jo Harrington, Vegan Chef and Event Organiser from Vegan Fair, which holds events in Somerset, shares her tips:

• Save all your onion skins, carrot and most vegetable peelings to make flavourful stocks, which are great bases for soups and stews.

• Regrow veggies like spring onions and leeks by putting the rooted ends upright in a glass of water, just covering the roots, for a few days. Keep the water refreshed and when they sprout, plant them in soil and they will regrow.

2. LOCAL FARMERS’ MARKETS

Axbridge Farmers Market, Axbridge Town Square, BS26 2AP. This shortlisted Taste of the West’s Best Farmer’s Market is held on the first Saturday of every month, from 9am-1pm

Frome Vegan Market, Cheese & Grain Market Hall BA11 1BE Around 25-30 stalls of plant based delicious foods and sustainable goods. Starts 1 February, then held 1st Saturday of the month from April.

Burnham-on-Sea Farmers’ Market, High Street, TA8 1PB Looking for a lively ambiance, this market is held right in the centre of a beautiful seaside town on the last Friday of the month.

3. SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Eco-friendly, ethnical and sustainable fashion is on its way and Ciara Nolan, owner of vintage store Poot Emporium in Frome, couldn’t agree more.
