The Royal Treatment

As you turn into the grand entrance of Great Fosters and crawl up the tree-lined driveway, the hotel is a sight to behold. It reminded me of the Beast’s beautiful castle from those old Ladybird books... Nestled within 50 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, Henry VIII used the house as a hunting lodge, and he sent his daughter, Elizabeth, here. The main house dates back to 1550 and the property also used to lie within the boundaries of Windsor Great Park.

We were greeted with a warm welcome by the receptionists, and after a speedy check-in, our bags were carried upstairs for us and we were shown into our room in the main house – Queen Anne’s suite.

Nothing could have prepared us for just how luxurious the room was. It boasted views over the parterres and moat, and a bedroom with a four-poster bed, a sitting room complete with sofas and a coffee table, a TV, sound system, coffee machine and fridge, and a separate 1920s-inspired bathroom with a free-standing roll-top bath.
