Did you know that around 10% of the population are believed to be dyslexic? Despite this it’s often little understood – far too frequently the stereotype of dyslexic people as being ‘less intelligent’ is thrown around, when the likes of Albert Einstein, Walt Disney and Agatha Christie have all famously proved otherwise.
In his 2009 report, Sir Jim Rose described this neurological difference as a “learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling”, and crucially he pointed out that dyslexia should be seen as a continuum, meaning that it affects different individuals in very different ways.
