BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin talks to Robyn Morris about taking on triathlons, early mornings and friendly rivalry with Good Morning Britain…

'I'm Fitter Now Than I Was In My Twenties!'

Look no further than Louise Minchin if you’re after fitness inspiration. When the seasoned triathlete arrives at our cover shoot, the results of her training regime are immediately obvious – defined biceps, toned legs and barely an ounce of fat in sight.

According to Louise, 50, the combination of swimming, cycling and running gives you a specific body type. “I can spot a triathlete a mile off,” she says.

On top of her busy schedule – she hosts BBC Breakfast alongside Dan Walker Mondays to Wednesdays, and is mum to Mia, 17, and 14-year-old Scarlett with her husband David – Louise trains for an impressive seven hours a week.

So how does she fit it all in? “This week I’ve been really busy and one day I had only half an hour at home with my husband, but we put on our trainers and went out for 26 minutes – it was the best 26 minutes of my day,” she says.

Louise and her family live in the picturesque countryside in Chester, a move they made seven years ago when the BBC relocated to MediaCity in Manchester. She says the move has “revolutionised” their lives, admitting, “I’m much less stressed than I was in London.” Her positive attitude is infectious. With a smile rarely leaving her face, it’s clear to see this is a woman who is living her dream.
