What appeared at this year's consumer electronics show.
IMPRESSIVE TVS, LAPTOPS AND DRONES ALL FEATURED
As classic sci-fishows like The Jetsons have demonstrated, many of us have long been convinced of various technologically impressive ways in which people will be living their day-today lives in some distant future. Well, that future probably looked a little less distant at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, which was held from January 5th to 8th in Las Vegas.
Wall-sized TVs, self-driving cars, guard robots and voice-controlled home appliances were all shown off at this year’s event - and, of course, there was plenty for Apple fans to get excited about, too. Here is a good look at many of the highlights.
THINNESS AND AFFORDABILITY WITH NEW PHONES AND LAPTOPS
You’ve likely already garnered the impression that there was no shortage of quirky treats on display behind the walls of the Las Vegas Convention Center. However, new phones and laptops remain obvious gadgets for inclusion at CES, and this year’s outing was no different. Samsung brought the Galaxy S7’s curved metal design and glass rear to refreshed midrange A3, A5 and A7 handsets. Meanwhile, LG updated its - also mid-range - K roster, providing a choice of four different models - the K family’s top model being the 5.3-inch LG K10 running on Android 7.0 Nougat.
In line with the recently emerged popularity of 2-in-1 devices, a convertible version of Dell’s XPS laptop was announced at CES 2017. The almost bezel-less display makes for an appealingly small 13-inch notebook. Meanwhile, HP unveiled a new EliteBook x360 which, while taking obvious design cues from MacBooks, is claimed to be the thinnest corporate-centric convertible yet, at just 0.59-inch thick. It also comes with a 13.3-inch display, fingerprint scanner and array of buttons intended specifically for use in making conference calls.
